Congress falls again in Arunachal
Joining PPA for growth and development: Pema

ITANAGAR, Sep 16: In yet another major political development, Congress legislators led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu defected from the party and joined People' Party of Arunachal(PPA) on Friday.
With this enmasse exodus of Congress legislators, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki is the only legislator left in the grand old party.
The membership of Gabriel D Wangsu and Wanglin Sawin are pending before the Speaker.
The formality of merger was done at State Legislative Assembly before Speaker T N Thongdok in presence of PPA Chairman Kamen Ringu and President Khafa Bengia.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu while addressing the media persons at Civil Secretariat here along with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Spokespersons PD Sona and Bamang Felix stated that they have joined PPA for growth and development of Arunachal.
CM said that deficit in the state exchequer amounting to Rs 3700/crore (Three Thousand Seven Hundreds Crore) is one of the major reasons to merge with PPA.
The Chief Minister maintained that such huge liability is difficult for the cash strapped state.
" After assuming the post of Chief Minister, I have inherited Rs 3700 crores liabilities, whereas Arunachal is resources crunch state and have to entirely depend on Centre" CM said.
CM further said that he will not blame any particular Chief Ministers for creating liabilities.
"A series of meeting was held with all MLAs before joining, and all the legislators have arrived at consensus to join PPA as the regional party is already part of North of East Democratic Alliance (NEDA)" said Khandu.
He further hinted that joining PPA would ensure more funds from the Centre as the PPA is also part of NEDA launched by BJP President Amit Shah in Guwahati in July last.
On being asked whether former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki would follow them, CM said that he had informed his predecessor about the latest development and will persuade him to join them.
On enmasse desertion of Congress Party, the govt Spokesperson cum Mechuka MLA Passang Dorjee Sona retorted, "We are concerned about how to run the state in current situation considering the fund crunch and joining the PPA is best way out to fulfill people's aspirations". Sona further added that merging with PPA is not only about regional flavor but would strengthen the Centre-State relationship in terms of fund flow.
When contacted, elated PPA Chairman Kamen Ringu termed the joining of Chief Minister Pema Khandu team to PPA as 'home coming' from temporal political exile. PPA Chairman informed that he had officially accepted all the legislators who merged with PPA. He further expressed the confidence that Khandu and his entire team will remain in PPA and there will be no further party shifting.
Pema Khandu took charge as Chief Minister after the Supreme Court judgment on July 13, 2016 dismissing Kalikho Pul government. Ever since Khandu took charge as CM there has been speculation about switching loyalty to PPA or BJP.
Rijiju blames Cong internal dissent for AP episode
New Delhi, Sep 16: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju blamed internal dissent in Congress for the political turmoil in Arunachal Pradesh.
Rijiju said BJP has no role in the latest political development in the state and the Congress MLAs were "angry with their own leadership" leading to their joining of People's Party of Arunachal Pradesh.
It is the second time this year that the Congress has been hit hard by rebellion.
"Congress MLAs including the Chief Minister in Arunachal are angry with their own central leadership. They have to wait in Delhi for 4-5 days to meet their own leaders. This has eventually led to MLAs joining a regional party. There is no more Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh," the minister told reporters here.
The Minister of State for Home said "if the MLAs don't want to stay with Congress, what can the others do".
"The Supreme Court also reinstated the Congress government but ultimately the MLAs' decision is final. Congress tried to blame BJP unnecessarily," he said. PTI
APIC impose penalty
ITANAGAR, Sept 16: The Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission has imposed a penalty of Rs 25000/- on PIO cum executive engineer, PWD, Sangram Division, Kurung Kumey district for deliberately defying the orders of the commission in connection with the appeal case no. APIC-126/2016 made by one Kipa Tagiam.
The commission further directed that in case of his failure to comply with its order, arrest warrant will be issued against the PIO.
Ering demands ALG for civilians, border roads
ITANAGAR, Sept 17: MP Ninong Ering has demanded that eight Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs) must be opened for civil and commercial uses and should benefit the less connected state of Arunachal Pradesh.
He was speaking at the North East Council meeting of the Committee on Connectivity including Roads & Highways, Airport and Air Connectivity, Inland Waterways and Railways which was held on Sept 16 at Chumukedima, Dimapur.
Ering further demanded for strengthening of roads to Zemithang, Taksing, Limiking, Gelling, Anini, Kibitho, Lazu and Vijaynagar.
A release said that mere Rupees 700 cr. allocation for 8 states for road construction is very less keeping in view the intensity of demands of roads in the North-East and the kind of construction work that is required in tough geographical terrains.
4 ITBP jawans detained for molestation

ITANAGAR, Sep 16: Four ITBP jawans have been arrested for alleged molestation of school girls by a group of ITBP jawans at Ganga village, Itanagar on Thursday evening. The girls were on their way home after tuition.
A case has been registered with Women police station under section 364 of the IPC and POCSO Act.
"Four jawans have been detained for the case," informed SP Capital.
Meanwhile, a resident of Ganga village informed that similar incidents have happened earlier involving ITBP jawans but there has been no action whatsoever.
"Senior ITBP officials were informed of the incident however no actions were taken. It's like they are shielding their jawans even when they are wrong," he said.
17 arrested for assault of policemen, TMPK seeks release
ITANAGAR, Sept 16: A total of 17 accused have been arrested for assaulting a police team at Silato village by the Mahadevpur police.
In a release, Lohit SP Isaac Pertin stated that the recent incident of attack by a mob at Silato will not in any way demoralize or deter the police from their commitment to take severe action against the drug peddlers of the area.
Further, the SP has cautioned the policemen of Lohit and Namsai district not to involve in any drug peddling and drug consumption. Anyone found involving in such crime would not be spared and stringent action as per law and disciplinary rules will be taken, stated the release.
The SP has lauded the Commandant 2nd IRBN, Diyun, S.Singpho, DySP Tezu, J.KLego, SI A.N.Singh and ASI Kishan Kumar of Mahadevpur PS for apprehending the culprits who were involved in the attack of the police team at Silato.
All Mising Students' Union (TMPK) led by Central Committee AGS Nobin Mili along with its Tinsukia unit that visited Silatoo has alleged that accused are being punished in the police custody as it sought their release.
TMPK, the students body of the Mising tribe has demanded that the government of Arunachal Pradesh release those who have been kept in the Mahadevpur Police Station, as it threatened vigorous step.
Meanwhile, TMPK demanded that Kunu Mili who it said was a drug peddler is punished.
It further said that police personnel were in civilian clothes so the villagers had no idea that they were police officers leading to assault on the officers, said TMPK's Reedeepjack Doley.
Bridge over Tilua river by Jan, 2017: BRO
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: Border Roads Organization (BRO) has set January 1, 2017 target to complete the 110m span steel bridge over Tilua river at Km 83.4 pointon Tezu-Hayuliang road.
The launching of Super Structure has been completed and the bridge is planned to open by January 1 next year, a BRO release said.
The fabrication of the steel super structure was carried out by EBW, Tezpur. The site executives of BRO are working day and night for timely completion of super structure despite inclement weather conditions and inhospitable terrain, the release said.
Presently, there is a 360 ft temporary Bailey Suspension Bridge over the river with restricted load capacity. The under construction bridge of load Cl 70 will replace the existing bridge facilitating operation logistics of Army as well as movement of heavy vehicles of civilians throughout the year.
For the first time in the history of BRO, 1444 BCC/48 BRTF under Project Udayak is constructing a 110m span steel bridge departmentally, informed its Commander Col. C. Rajashekar.
Tezu-Tohangam-Hayuliang-Changwinti-Walong road being maintained by the 48 BRTF "The Versatile" (P) Udayak, BRO is the main artery route to forward sector of Kibithu on LAC with China.
WHL organises 'Falun Dafa' for survivors of violence
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: The Arunachal Women Helpline organised 'Falun Dafa' for the women and children survivors of violence.
A WHL release stated that the women, children and the staffs after the 'Falun Dafa' session expressed calmness and happiness.
"I am feeling good and I am happy now" said a women victim. "My arms were in pain this morning, now the pain has totally gone" informed a staff from WHL.
Falun Dafa also known as Falun Gong is a powerful cultivation practise for body, mind and spirit based on the essential nature of the universe, truthfulness, compassion and tolerance. The benefits of practicing Falun Dafa range from improved health and new found energy to mental clarity, stress relief and peace of mind.
Christiane Teich taught the children and women survivors Falung Dafa and the five sets of exercise practiced in Falun Dafa. She is a Falun Dafa practitioner originally from Germany who has been living in Sarnath, Varanashi for the past 26 years with her husband who is an Indian.
Meanwhile, a daylong awareness camps were held separately at Niba Hospital and Heema Hospital covering the people of Capital Complex to spread maximum awareness on violence against women. Besides on spot counseling and information on women and government related schemes, pamphlets containing information on Arunachal Women Helpline (WHL) and One Stop Centre (OSC) were also distributed to the people.
Training on conservation of Hoolock Gibbon
ROING, Sep 16: A two days teachers training and workshop for 'Conservation of Eastern Hoolock Gibbon in Eastern Assam and Arunachal Pradesh landscape through education-awareness and community conservation practices (CHGAAP)' concluded at the Mishmi Hill Camp on Friday.
The awareness programme was organised by ENVIRON and Aitijya in partnership with SSA, GoAP and Department of Environment and Forest, GoAP, in support with Kera-a Initiative for Cultural and Ecological Security (KICES), a local NGO, and saw participation of teachers from all over the district.
KICES vice chairman, Dr. Mite Linggi said that this training and workshop has been specially tailored for teachers because they are the most effective carriers and the best media to pass on the message and create awareness amongst children.
Reportedly, Hoolock Gibbons are the only ape found in India, and the north bank of Brahmaputra-Dibang river system houses both species of these gibbons. However, because of massive deforestation, the gibbons who are exclusively forest-dwelling, have been listed as endangered in the IUCN Red List and assessed as Schedule I species in the Indian Wildlife Protection Act 1972, therefore raising the need of conservation awareness programmes.
Various activities, including developing education material, and handling and rescue of the Hoolock Gibbons, were conducted during the workshop. A representative of ENVIRON informed that there will be constant follow up at schools to monitor the outcome of the workshop.
DDSE Roing, Ego Doye also attended the programme, along with President KICES, Jibi Pulu and GS, KICES Tone Mickrow.
Hindi Divas celebrated at Roing
ROING, Sep 16: More than 200 students and teachers from 45 different schools of the district participated in the 'Hindi Diwas' celebrated at the VKV auditorium by the District Hindi Diwas Committee in collaboration with the teaching community to commemorate the adoption of Hindi as the official language of the country on Wednesday at Roing.
Various literary competitions like drawing, painting, essay writing, quiz and speech promoting Hindi language was also conducted, along with other cultural competitions.
PGT GHSS Bolung and coordinator of the programme, B R Das highlighted the aims and objectives of the celebration of Hindi Diwas and how use and knowledge of the language can help in overcoming certain obstacles caused due to language barriers.
DC Roing Ravi Dhawan spoke about how hindi connects people in a multilingual country like India, further stressing on the importance of Hindi and its critical role in nation building.
BM HDFC Shekar Prasad expressed the role of Hindi in Banks and other public domain in India.
DDSE Roing Ego Doye also spoke on the occasion.
TGT, DR Deshmukh was felicitated with citation by the DC for his service in the education department and his role as founder member in promoting the celebration of Hindi Diwas in Roing since 2003.
'HGB dies due to electrocution'
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: Head Goan Burah (HGB) of Yomcha village Gaba Gamkak died reportedly due to electrocution at Yomcha of West Siang district on September 13.
A complaint was reportedly lodged with the Power Department on the impending threat posed by leaking current from the HT line on September 7 by the public of Yomcha. But, allegedly, the Power Department did not pay heed to it, alleged Kargu Kardi Students Union (KKSU).
The tragedy could have been averted had the department concerned acted promptly to the complaint, KKDSU rued.
Holding the department solely responsible for death of the HGB, KKSU demanded immediate termination of the authority responsible for the tragic incident. The students union also demanded immediate compensation/ex - gratia to the victim family.
Meanwhile, Yomcha Police have registered the case under section 304(A) of IPC and launched investigation.
Theravada Buddhists celebrate Madhu Purnima
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: The Theravada Buddhist Community across state on Friday observed Satang Chaley, popularly known as Madhu Purnima, with traditional fervor and gaiety.
The Theravada Buddhist Society Itanagar observed the day with mass prayer for world peace and harmony. Special discourse by scholar Kesang Aryadhamma on observance of Satang Chaley and community feast were the other highlights of the day.
On this day, lay Buddhists devotees offered Buddha with honey and fruits. A joyous atmosphere prevailed in all Viharas on the day.
Apart from celebrating the greatness of charity the day is significant for its role in establishing unity among Buddhists. This festival teaches the lessons of charity, service and unity that are essential for human life.
Vocational education for senior secondary level
ITANAGAR, Sept 16: Vocational education on hospitality management courses for senior secondary level was conducted at Govt Hr Sec School, Doimukh on September 10 last.
The course has been introduced by ministry of tourism, GoI, under the disposal of director of secondary education cum project director, RMSA, Arunachal Pradesh with an aim to impart training on making bread, bakery and confectionary items.
Trained in confectionary items Manju Bagrodia imparted training on cake preparation to students who attended in large number.
Meeting on special summary revision
PASIGHAT, Sep 16: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Isha Khosla, who also is the DEO, instructed all the EROs, AEROs, BLOs to gear up for the special summery revision of electoral rolls, which will commence from October one for publication. The final photo electoral roll will be published on January 11, 2017.
She instructed the officers to verify the electoral roll and to delete all duplicate entries, shifted and dead voters. The DEO asked them to ensure cent percent enrollment of eligible voters, EPIC cover to prepare error-free electoral roll.
She urged local leaders to sensitize the people and extend cooperation to the government officials so that no eligible voter is left.

Training on GeoMGNREGA held
CHANGLANG, Sep 16: A daylong district level training on GeoMGNREGA for the wave-II districts was conducted in the Circuit House, Changlang on Sep 14.
The training was imparted to sensitise regarding the GIS implementation of MGNREGA. PD DRDA, T Jerang urged all the block officials especially the EO (RE) and those dealing with MIS to pay special attention to the training.
The training was imparted by Assistant Director SIRD cum GIS MGNREGA Regional Resource Person, Rodo Bui and was supported by IT consultant Dept of Rural Development, Pabom Doyom. The training was sponsored by the MoRD and conducted by Dept of RD and SIRD.
A total of 59 participants including the PD DRDA, BDOs, all the block functionaries and ZPC Changlang J Singpho attended the training.

Vishwakarma Football: Marcy Sono FC and KK FC win
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: Marcy Sono FC and KK FC won their respective matches against Chandranagar FC and Rughu Society FC on the 6th day in the Vishwakarma Football Trophy being held at KV No 2 playground here on Friday.
Marcy Sono FC defeated Chandranagar FC 2-1 goal while KKFC edged past Rughu Society FC by solitary goal (1-0) in the second match.
Luke Jamoh scored both the goals for Marcy Sono FC. The lone goal for Chandranagar FC was scored by Tai Paktong.
The winning goal for KK FC in the match against Rughu Society FC was scored by Akash Taw.
Muskan Welfare Society extends help to students
ITANAGAR, Sep 17: The Muskan Welfare Society has extended financial help to 34 students, which includes three each from Kra Dadi and Capita Complex and two each from Tawang, Lohit, Lower Subansiri, East Kameng, Lower Dibang Valley, Changlang, Kurung Kumey, Namsai, Longding, Tiap and Anjaw.
One student from East Kameng district Jorjee Sonam of Class XII (Sc), who scored 91% in Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) was awarded a scholarship of Rs. 25,000.00, while nineteen students were given a scholarship of Rs. 20,000.00, each, eight were given Rs. 15,000.00 each and four were awarded Rs.7,500.00 each.
The Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar, Capital Complex, Sandeep Kumar Singh handed over the scholars to meritorious students of the Capital Complex in a simple function on Sept 13.
Secretary MWS, Kobby Zirdo Bagra, informed that to reach out to the needy students of entire State, assistance of District Administrations were taken and list were collected.
This was an initiative of the former First lady Rita Rajkhowa who took the decision to help meritorious students belonging to Economically Weaker Section category.
Ngandam visits state central library
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: Education and public libraries minister Honchun Ngandam visited state Central Library here on Friday.
The Minister inspected the Library in the presence of Deputy Director Tarak Mize, Asst. Directors GT Jini and YR Ete, officers and staffs of the Library Department.
While interacting with the Minister, the deputy director shared grievances of the department of Public Library.
"With handful of officers and staffs, it is difficult to run 109 Public Libraries around the state effectively," he shared.
To provide better Library services in the State, he suggested creating various categories of posts including Joint Director, Deputy Director and Asst. Director saying there has been no post creation for the last 10 years. The minister assured to resolve the grievances at earliest possible.
The minister appreciated the way old News Paper and Magazines have been bounded and kept in proper way for future reference.
Further suggesting that old furniture be replaced, he asked the department to increase the size of budget provision for over all development.
DBC students donate 110 units of blood
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: In all 110 enthusiast Don Bosco College (DBC) students, of the total 140 registered, donated blood in a voluntary camp, organised by Arunachal Vivekananada Yuva Shakti (AVYS) in collaboration with State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), RKM Hospital & DBC NSS unit in the college campus in Jollang near here on Friday.
Of the total blood units collected, 50 units would be sent to Tomo Riba State Hospital (TRSH), Naharlagun and 60 units to RKMH, Itanagar, informed AVYS advisor Pradeep Kumar.
The blood units collected by AVYS during January-September this year rose to 600 units, including a rare B plus negative unit followed by 30 students joining the AVYS as voluntary donors.
Moreover, Supreme Court legal practitioner T T Tara impressed by the humanitarian services joined as legal adviser to stood by the cause of AVYS.
Informing that total 44 cancer patients under treatment in Tomo Riba State Hospital (TRSH), Naharlagun need blood daily, AVYS founder chairman Ramesh Jeke exhorted the young students to donate blood regularly to meet the state's present annual deficit of about 10,000 units.
"There should be no fear while donating blood as it would benefit the donors and save the lives of the needy," he said while explaining the benefit of blood donation, adding "Blood donation with numerous benefits serves as a therapy for good health."
SBTC deputy director Dr Nabam Budh, RKMH staff including Dr G Potom led by Swmi Vedavidyananada and APSACS society staff conducted the camp, supported by DBC principal father Nicolas and Eklavya Public School.
DC encourages farmers to start small savings
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Ravi Dhawan encouraged farmers to start small savings, which could be used by them for day to day expenses as well as in times of needs.
"Arunachal Pradesh is blessed with vast fertile lands and abundant natural resources as compared to other parts of the country. If every farmers and unemployed youths make maximum use of their land resources, they will have enough to save and also to meet the other requirements in their day to day life," Dhawan said.
The Deputy Commissioner was addressing the district level interface meeting of HODs, NABARD, bankers, SHGs and farmers clubs on the issues and challenges faced by the farmers organized by AMYAA with support of NABARD RO, Itanagar at Roing on Friday.
Terming farming as one of the most dignified professions, he said that no farmer is really poor if they sincerely and diligently tap the untapped virgin land resource available at their disposal. He advised the participants to take full benefit of the various schemes that are being discussed and shared by various departments attending in the meeting.
He appreciated AMYAA and NABARD for initiating such resourceful meeting for the benefit of the grassroots level community based organizations.
Earlier, Dhawan handed over a cheque of Rs. 55000 in favour of 11 Farmers' Clubs promoted by AMYAA through the sponsorship of NABARD, Regional Office.
Secretary AMYAA RK Paul Chawang emphasized on the need to bridge the existing gap between the Government Departments and the community based organizations (such as SHGs and Farmers' Clubs). He also stressed on the need to collaborate for maximum utilization of resources at the best interests of the SHGs and Farmer Clubs, who can be trained to be change leaders at the village level.
He also highlighted on the status of farmers in India, the issues and challenges faced by the farmers such as unreliable monsoon rain, lack of education, unorganized farmers, traditional way of farming, non-application of modern technology in farming sector, irregularity of electric supply and improper utilization of land through PowerPoint.
He further presented on the means to improve the conditions of the farmers through government support, usage of modern technology and credit linkage.
Nitya Mili, DDM, NABARD highlighted in details on various Government Sponsored Schemes (GSS) being implemented through NABARD. He mainly focused on the schemes of Animal Husbandry sector, such as Diary Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) and National Livestock Mission (NLM).
He urged all the participants to take avail the benefits available with regard to diary, poultry, piggery and goatry. He also highlighted on the eligibility and the procedures involved for applying the schemes.
The meeting was attended by HODs from the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary, Textile & Industry, Fishery, DUDA, NABARD, ArSRLM, Bankers from SBI, HDFC, APRB and Apex Bank.
The members from 20 SHGs and 11 Farmers' Clubs also participated in the programme.
ALSDSU bandh ends
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: The 36-hours bandh call given by All Lower Subansiri District Students' Union (ALSDSU) has come to an end successfully on Thursday few hours ahead of scheduled time following the assurance of district administration to fulfill its three-point charter of demands, according to Union release.
The first day of the second phase 36 hours bandh call concluded successfully. However, on the second day the Union had to call off it temporarily at 1.30 pm following the intervention and assurance of the district administration to fulfill the demands within a month, the Union added.
Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen has reportedly on Wednesday stated that the demands placed by the student union pertaining to government land encroachment and road maintenance have already been addressed. He informed that individual notices have already been served to the land encroachers and pertaining to the road maintenance MoS MoRTH has already sanctioned 10 crores during his visit.
While appreciating the Union Minister of State For MoRTH for announcing fund for road maintenance and the DC for his initiative in this regard, the Union however threatened to go with 3rd phase of agitation if its demands are not fulfilled within a month.
CFBs distributed to livestock farmers
DIRANG, Sep 16: Complete Feed Blocks (CFBs) were distributed to livestock farmers during an awareness programme conducted at Nyukmadung village under Dirang circle of West Kameng on September 14 by ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak, Dirang.
Complete Feed Block is a technology which can help farmers in balanced feeding of dairy animals and thereby, increasing milk production and profit incurred from dairy farming.
In total, 3,143 units of CFBs were distributed amongst 43 beneficiaries, who participated in the programme.
The farmers were briefed about scientific management of livestock in terms of breeding, feeding, housing and health management, especially during winter with field demonstration on some techniques of feeds and fodder conservation by a team of scientists of the institute.
Gaon Burha of Nyukmadung village Rin Tsering, who chaired the programme, advised the farmers to adopt the technologies demonstrated during the programme to get maximum benefit from their livestock.
The GB hailed the efforts of Director, ICAR-NRC on Yak, Dirang Dr S M Deb for conducting the programme for the wellbeing of the livestock owners, which will help in uplifting the economic status of the farmers.
State level vendor development prog
ITANAGAR, Sep 16: The Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Institute, Itanagar branch office under the Union ministry of MSME has organized a one-day State Level Vendor Development Programme (SLVDP) at the conference hall of directorate of Industries here on Friday.
In his inaugural address, Industries Director Taru Talo emphasized the need to ensure the customer's satisfaction while marketing the products by the micro and small entrepreneurs. SMEs should develop competitive mind and produce quality goods with new innovative approach for satisfaction of customers, he said.
In his address, Trade and Commerce Director, Tokong Pertin has encouraged the entrepreneurs to come up with projects for sustainable growth in MSME sector in the state. He also emphasized on quality products and also informed about various avenues including Tea & Rubber cultivation in the state.
Assistant Director and in-charge Br MSME-DI, Itanagar G S Khandelwal also spoke on the occasion.
In technical session Itanagar Food Corporation of India (FCI), manager Nikunj Kr. Das explained the procedure for Vendor registration and assured support to development of MSME sector.
Among others, DDI G. Angu, APEDA chairman Nabam Regum and potential entrepreneurs were present in the programme.

Alternate career option
In a welcome news four boys from the state has been selected for training and coaching in weightlifting at the Boys Sports Company AOC Centre, Secunderabad. Run by the army and Sports Authority of India, the Boys Sports Company provides world class facilities to the budding sportsperson. The Arunachal Weightlifting Association (AWA) is coordinating with AOC Secunderabad and facilitating visit of their scouts to the state. The AWA deserves huge appreciation for providing this kind of platform to the young sportspersons of the state.
If those selected boys properly use the opportunity it will change their life forever. Besides getting chance to pursue their dream of becoming world champion, the boys will get quality education and the chance to serve Indian army. Other associations can take cue from AWA and create more such platform for the budding champions. The department of sports and youth affairs should also do more to encourage the local talents. At present the department is running in tardy manner and needs to be revamped. Arunachal has lot of potential champions. But unfortunately due to lack of support the young children do not take up sports as career. The parents also need to change their mentality. There is life beyond engineers and doctors. Sports have emerged as major career option and its time Arunachalee parents recognize it.

Give them chance
Dear Editor,
While referring to the Readers’ Forum item “Give us chance” which was published in your esteemed daily recently, I would also like to extend my support to the grievances expressed by the Diploma Holders in Tourism Study from IGNOU.
It is known fact that a large number of graduate students of the state do not get admission in RGU for regular study because of the limited seats and the students, most of the them from poor economic background, also can not afford to go outside the state for higher study. In such circumstances, they have no other option but to approach IGNOU to pursue the degree or diploma course so that they do not loss the opportunity to appear the job interview due to lack of required qualification. Therefore, there should be no biased treatment by the APPSC against the IGNOU Tourism diploma holders.
Moreover, frequent changes in the minimum eligibility criteria have become a big
problem for unemployed educated youths. Earlier, all graduate students were eligible
for such post and by the year in 2013, it became graduate +DTS (regular or non-
Therefore, it is my sincere appeal to the concerned authority to pay heed towards the grievances of unemployed youth of our state and give the IGNOU diploma holders an opportunity to compete for job.
